The Vineyard

The vineyard is a peaceful place.  Jack rabbits, barn owls, squirrels, gophers, hawks, quail, crows, scrub jays, blue-belly lizards, gopher snakes, and coyotes frequent the spaces between the vines.  We've also seen a long green snake, and American robin and a lesser goldfinch.

The rectangular vineyard has nine long rows, three with Zinfandel vines and six mostly Mourvedre vines.

There are sixteen shorter rows divided by a cottage and farm house.  The vines near Sellers Avenue are mostly Mourvedre growing in loamy clay soil.

The rows to the east are mostly vacant scattered with a few Zinfandel vines growing in sandy soil.
The to-do list includes planting a native California hedgerow, fruit trees, a wild local grape, native California grasses, and native California blackberries to harbor wasps that prey on leafhoppers.
